In The Hunt: Part III

Friday, December 7th, 2007

And just like the third chapter of any trilogy, the good guys prevail. Yes, MrAwes0me has found himself a Wii. <Wait for applause>

They say good things come to people who wait, but they also come to people who impatiently hit the refresh button on Amazon.com instead of working after lunch. Thanks to several Wii tracking sites, I was able to land me a console within the 8 minute window that Amazon had them available from 1:33pm-1:41pm CST. Here are the sites I used:

  • WiiAlerts.com – Txt messaging and email notification. The txt message from this site got me the Wii.
  • NowInStock.net – Txt messaging & email notification. Good site, however unable to handle the network traffic when an alert is sent out (see Part II).
  • WiiTracker.com – Nice history log of Wii availability. This helped form my strategy.

So, looking back on my goals I would say this hunt was a success. It took me less than a week with minimal effort to purchase a console at market price. I didn’t have to make dozens of calls, nor drive all around town, nor wait in line for hours on Sunday morning. Just had to sign up on a few sites, surf the web a bit, and make half dozen calls to local merchants.

High-fives to all, and to all a good night!!!

In The Hunt

So since it ‘tis the season, I have been told to come up with my list for Santa.  After thinking long and hard, I have decided on a Wii.  Now, these guys have been around for a little over a year now, but for some reason they are harder to find than hair on my dogs’ rump

This morning I was woken bright and early by said dogs needing to answer the call of nature, and I was forced to start my day.  After perusing through the Sunday ads, I noticed that both Playthings Are We and Greatest Purchase were advertising the Wii as in stock.   With Playthings Are We opening very shortly, I chocked upped a trip to the store as a lost cause.  This made Greatest Purchase (which opened in two hours) the only option for the day.

Now, I would like (not NEED!!!) a Wii.  This means my level of effort to obtaining one is pretty much limited to showing up fifteen minutes before the store opens.  So as I stepped into the already formed line, I counted myself as number 11 in the queue.   I figured this put me in pretty decent shape to pick up one of the advertised 18 minimum per store.  However, just as I started to feel good about my situation, a lady in the front part of the line either being nice, or gloating in her own personal victory (I know what it would be for me) told the few newcomers that tickets were handed out one hour prior to opening, and all the units have been spoken for.  Well s*it!  I guess my desire to do little to no work for obtaining a console was trumped by others willing to stand out in the elements (20* F + snow) for one plus hours.

So it sounds like I will either need to change my wish list, or up my level of commitment.  Keep your eyes peeled for MrAwes0me!
